TED (turtle excluder device) and shrimp net on dock

Southeast Louisiana shrimpers can have their TEDs measured and approved by NOAA Fisheries gear specialists to be sure they are properly installed.Dale Stevens, Canh Nguyen, and Jason Letort of NOAA Fisheries will visit shrimp boats to make sure TEDs are at the proper angle to reduce shrimp loss, as well as properly release sea turtles.  NO enforcement actions will be taken during these courtesy checks.

Fishermen should release and hang their nets properly so that TEDs are a few feet above the deck prior to arrival. The whole process takes only a few minutes per net.
