Today, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced the commercial season for the harvest of king mackerel in Louisiana waters will close at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, and remain closed until the season is scheduled to re-open on July 1, 2019.
The commercial season for the harvest of king mackerel was previously reopened on November 12, 2018, to harvest quota remaining for the western Gulf of Mexico. LDWF has been informed that the quota for the western Gulf of Mexico is projected to be reached.
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission provided the authority to Secretary Montoucet to modify the commercial king mackerel season at its regular meeting on November 1, 2018, in order to harvest the remaining quota.
