Gulf Council’s Scientific and Statistical Committees to Meet

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a one-day hybrid meeting (in-person and virtual) of its Standing, Reef Fish, Ecosystem, and Socioeconomic Scientific and Statistical Committees. The meeting will be held from 9:00 – 5:30 EST on March 8-10, 2022. The meeting will be held at the Council Office located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.
Members of the public are welcome to attend in-person. In effort to promote a safe meeting experience, attendees will be required to wear masks and socially distance while moving about the Council offices and meeting space. Attendees may remove masks when seated or when providing public comment.
The Scientific and Statistical Committees will address the following:
  • Red Snapper
    • Estimating absolute abundance of red snapper off the State of Louisiana
    •  Post-stratification analysis for Florida red snapper absolute abundance data
    • Consideration and Recommendations on updated catch analysis for Gulf of Mexico red snapper using the Great Red Snapper Count
  • Red Grouper interim analysis for health check
  • Terms of reference for SEDAR 64: Southeastern U.S. Yellowtail Snapper Update Assessment
  • Terms of reference for SEDAR 85: Gulf of Mexico Yellowedge Grouper Operational Assessment
  • Characterizing commercial fleet behavior using analysis of vessel monitoring service and other data (“Applying movement analytics to the commercial Gulf of Mexico reef fish fishery”)
  • National Academies of Sciences report on the impacts of limited access privilege programs in mixed-use fisheries
  • Update on the development of brown and white shrimp empirical dynamic models
Public comment will be held in-person and over the webinar each day before the meeting adjourns.
