Since 1993, an oyster hatchery has operated on Grand Isle, and in 2009, the hatchery operation was moved to its current location at the LDWF Fisheries Research Lab. This allows LDWF and LSG to merge their academic research projects and programs to benefit the commercial harvesting sector and aid in management of the public seed grounds.
