Shrimpers in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes can have their TEDs measured and approved to be sure they are properly installed — NO enforcement actions will be taken during these courtesy checks.

Canh Nguyen and Jason Letort, gear specialists with NOAA Fisheries, will visit shrimp boats to make sure TEDs are at the proper angle to reduce shrimp loss, as well as properly release sea turtles. Fishermen should release and hang their nets properly so that TEDs are a few feet above the deck prior to arrival. The whole process takes only a few minutes per net.
